Classic antivirus only knows what someone has seen before.
That kind of protection keeps a register of known malicious code and compares against it. It works fine until the attack is new — and most of them are today. Attackers change the code slightly, and the register comes up empty.
SentinelOne looks at behaviour instead. What is this process actually trying to do? Is it encrypting files? Turning off backup? Talking to a machine it has never talked to before? The decision is made locally on the machine, at the moment it happens — even if the network is down, and even if nobody is watching.
